Bob the Banker

Bob Johnson, founder of BET,  has been making big moves as of late. After selling BET to Viacom for $3 billion, purchasing in the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats, creating a hedge and private equity funds, and becoming the biggest black hotelier, Bob is now taking on, in my opinion, what could be his most profitable, and important ventures yet, the wide wonderful world of financial services. Bob acquired a tiny Florida savings and loan bank, Florida Thrift, to be renamed Urban Trust, with the idea of building the country’s largest minority-owned financial services company. Urban Trust will be geared mainly toward African-Americans and other minorities, providing mortgages, investment opportunities, student loans and other banking options.
