IE 5.5 Rears its Ugly Head
January 2, 2007
Before I start working on a new web design, I like to visit my web stats to see what browsers and screen resolutions my visitors are using. I notice that 3% of my visitors still use IE 5.5. Now I know your saying 3% is not that big of a deal, and you can’t design for all browsers, but still… I have enough problems with IE 6.0. I just wonder what my sites look like in 5.5? I wonder if the visitors are laughing my designs.

One thing that you should consider is spam probes. If you have a respectable PageRank and get a lot of comment spam, those comments come with randomly generated user-agents (I guess to throw off filters) and I see lots of older browsers in there.
Also, your site degrades fine, IE 5 shouldn’t be much of a problem.
